How do I store roasted coffee?

And how long should I degas for?

We recommend that you store your coffee in a dark and cool place away from any sunlight and external heat source. It is advised that you wait a couple of days after roasting to allow your coffee to degas before trying your roasted coffee. Although, we know how difficult it can be to wait!

If coffee is not allowed to rest, you may find that the unrested coffee will have a bitter taste, and won't be as tasty as it could be if it had been allowed to rest.

With a new coffee, we love to roast several batches to taste over a period of time usually around 5-10 days to see what flavour notes are picked up and which degassing time we prefer. After all, this is all about getting the best results for you! We have even gone as far as to taste from day 1 to 10 to see how the flavour changes, this is a great experiment to do and a great way to learn. Just be sure to make notes every time you taste and keep the variables the same.

We love and highly recommend the AirScape for degassing and storage. We were so excited to become a stockist of them. But you may find something you prefer and so long as you follow the guidelines above you will be able to get the most out of your freshly roasted coffee.
