At IKAWA, we design and build coffee roasting solutions for both the Home enthusiast and the Coffee Professional. Both types of systems have different tools, capabilities and formats.
Our IKAWA Home Roasting System is great for people that have a real passion for brewing, drinking and now roasting coffee in the comfort of their own home. It is for those that enjoy a great brew and love to know all of the finer points of how that coffee is processed and eventually ends up in the bottom of your cup. In essence, it allows for full control over what a consumer is drinking. Instead of relying on other beans and their roast profiles, the user can choose a roast recipe and roast every bean to how they like it.
The IKAWA Home is not intended for commercial use and doing so will invalidate the 1 year warranty. Additionally, it should not be used as a pilot or profiling roaster, as the machine uses inlet temperature rather than exhaust or bean temperature, which is the standard for production coffee roasting machine roast profiles.
Our IKAWA Pro Sample Roasters are for those working in the coffee industry. It is a business tool at heart, allowing users to roast through and cup samples prior to purchase, inform their production roaster profiles and even develop certain coffees to compete in competitions (just like the World Barista Championship and the World Brewers Cup - there's some awesome articles and videos from competitors using IKAWA, so do let me know if you'd like me to forward them over!). This roaster allows more manipulation and control through both an Inlet and Exhaust Temperature Sensor, rather than just the Inlet in the Home roaster. You also gain important information such as Rate of Rise, can mark first crack and adjust the profile while roasting. There are other tools within the IKAWA Pro app such as IKAWA Cup, which are best suited for the professional user. The Pro roaster is designed explicitly for people like yourselves.
The IKAWA Home for domestic use is great and gives the opportunity to roast through some really amazing coffee, the Pro on the other hand allows for all of the analytical access and control that you'll absolutely need to use it as a primary sample and profiling roaster.
